Yorktown by Bill Robinson

Hard-ish sci-fi space opera, as the US space navy meet their first aliens (and kill them).

The new frigate USS Yorktown, commanded by Katana Kreiger, encounter alien bad guys who are capturing cargo vessels. Lots of tense space battles, fairly hard sci-fi (I didn’t check the physics, but lots of speeds and distances, no artificial gravity), and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Told in first person, present tense, from the point of view of the female captain, this is very readable throughout though the writing is rather sloppy.
