Warmstone by Chris Speck

A father carries his disabled son through an icy wilderness, battling murderous machines and hostile men along the way.

Outcast by his tribe, Seven carries his son Erik on a trek to the centre of the world, where he believes the sickly boy will be cured. Erik’s strange clairvoyant abilities and Seven’s steadfast bravery keep them alive as they meet homicidal giant machines and hostile tribes.

This is a great, engaging story with memorable characters, set in an original, intriguing world. The only problem is the writing, which is poorly edited. If you can ignore that it’s well worth reading.
