The Cerulean’s Secret by Dennis Meredith

This lightweight science fiction thriller is available in Young Adult and Adult versions. I read the Adult version; I assume the Young Adult one is essentially the same but tones down the violence and omits sexual references.

The protagonist is Timothy, a young man who wants to be a writer. He’s working in New York as a cab driver when he witnesses the theft of a valuable genetically-engineered (and blue) cat. Before long someone is trying to kill him. Shenanigans and skullduggery ensue.

This book features some good science fiction content, a little satire and some genuinely funny moments. The writing is readable throughout and well edited. But the plot is contrived and the main character annoying. And prone to exclamations! And in the near future, ‘cool’ will be cool again!

Younger readers may enjoy this more than I did.
