The story is told in first person from the point of view of Taryn, archaeologist and some-time bounty hunter, who is having a bad week. Her employers keep dying, odd things are happening at the dig site, and attractive strange men cause all sorts of problems. And for some reason she’s stuck with three fairies who keep getting drunk and creating havoc (not the annoying twee kind of fairy, more tiny flying hooligans).
Well-written throughout, with few editing errors, this is extremely readable. Taryn’s humour is engaging, the plot never pauses, and the world is full of inventive fantasy content. A bit too hectic and confused in places, but tremendous fun.
This is the first in a series, and it shows, but is still enjoyable as a standalone read.
