Daimones by Massimo Marino

A family wake up to find they may be the last humans alive.

I’m not a big fan of end-of-the-world stories, but this rather quiet apocalypse is very readable and compelling, evoking the horror and pity of being the last survivors of the human race. The writing is generally good with few editing errors, though occasionally clunky phrasing suggests that English is not the author’s first language.

I enjoyed reading this, but was disappointed with the ending. It wasn’t believable or satisfying for me: your mileage may vary.

Expect a bit of fairly explicit sex, and naturally, a lot of death.
