Brilliance by Marcus Sakey

A science fiction thriller set in sorta-present-day America: the emergence of a new class of people born with savant-level mental abilities disrupts society. The protagonist is Nick Cooper, a government agent whose job includes chasing down and killing out-of-control geniuses.

This is firmly in the thriller genre, with lots of chasing and fighting. I found the opening chase scene stodgy, but the plot warms up nicely as it goes along and is complemented by some great writing in parts. Themes of persecution of minorities and corrupt government are what you’d expect but are well handled.

This is the first of a trilogy, all in KU, but reads fine as a standalone book.

Expect lots of violence and a couple of sexy bits.
